cholesterol - food to eat and food to avoid

Before talking about what we should eat and avoid with cholesterol, lets know a little bit about cholesterol.
What is cholesterol?
In simple words cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance that is found in cells of the body.

What does it do?
It helps the body to make hormones, and make substances that helps the food to digest.

From where does these cholesterol come?
Cholesterol comes from two sources 1. Our body (especially liver) makes the necessary amount of cholesterol and circulates it through the blood in our body (known as lipoprotein). 2. Cholesterol is also found in our food, especially from animal sources like meat, poultry and full-fat diet.

Types
We all know that there are two types of cholesterol LDL & HDL and having both types of lipopotein in healthy or normal levels is important.
1. LDL (also known as- bad cholesterol)- High LDL level can lead to buildup cholesterol in our arteries (Arteries are the blood vessel that carry blood from our heart to our body)
2. HDL (also known as- good cholesterol)- HDL carries cholesterol from other part of our body to our liver, and our liver removes the excess cholesterol from our body.

What are the causes of high cholesterol?
Cholesterol can rise in our body due to two reasons-
1. Eating a lot of saturated fat, trans fat. example; meats, egg yolks, butter, cheese, deep fried food, and packaged food like, cookies, chips, cakes etc.
2. No exercise.

What is a high blood cholesterol?
In simple words when there are too much of cholesterol in our blood, it is known as high blood cholesterol. This condition has no signs and symptoms, thus it is difficult to know if the levels are high. It is said, higher the level of LDL, greater is the chance of heart disease and higher the level of HDL, lower is the chance of heart disease.

How to know if you have cholesterol?
A blood test is the only way to know the cholesterol levels.

BUT
Living a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and balanced food with regular exercise can keep us away from high blood cholesterol level and other diseases.

White rice
White rice produced through a refining process thus it is stripped of nutrients, still provides us with many nutrients, with high content of carbohydrate and low in fiber.
Carbohydrates are known as the quickest source of energy, thus white rice provide us with plenty of energy.
White rice contains amino acids which promotes muscle growth.
White rice also contains mild amount of manganese, thiamine, low sodium which helps boost the immune system and protect from diseases.
BUT
The glycemic index and carbohydrate content of white rice are really high. Thus it can be insulin resistant and glucose level spikes as it rapidly breaks down into sugar in our body, resulting in increased risk of diabetes.

White rice can be stored easily for much longer time. Easy to cook as well as digest.

Brown rice
Brown rice are not the refined rice or they are unprocessed as it has the side hull and bran, the side hulls and  brans provide important nutrients. It is a whole grain and high in fiber, thus offers more health benefits.
Brown rice  is gluten free, rich in selenium and manganese. Rich in iron which helps in carrying oxygen to blood cells. Boosts metabolism and stabilizes blood sugar level.
Brown rice is rich in naturally occuring oils which helps to lower bad cholesterol.
Brown rice is also famous as a weight loss diet due its high fiber content.
BUT
The cooking time of brown rice is more than white rice and is difficult to digest. It is a whole grain so it may lack few minerals and other valuable food nutrients that are necessary for the body.
