Egg Chicken Roll | Chicken Kathi Roll | Street style Egg Chicken Roll

We all love a snack or meal, that can be handy, easy to go, easy to eat, simple to make and deliciously tasty. One such recipe is the Roll or wraps, packed with flavors and taste, it can be a complete meal or a snack, eat at home or where ever you want, it makes you full. Though there are different types of rolls and wraps, we will try on the famous "Kathi Roll" with egg and chicken stuffing. So, lets start with the ingredients.


1. All purpose flour 2 cups
2. Boneless chicken 200 grams (cut into small pieces or taco cut)
3. Egg 2 (for 2 rolls) 
4. Onion 1 cup (chopped)
5. Ginger 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
6. Garlic 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
7. Tomato 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
8. Salt to taste
9. Cumin powder 1/2 tbsp
10. Red chili powder 1/2 tbsp
11. Black pepper powder 2 tsp
12. Green chili sauce 1 tbsp
13. Coriander leaves handful (finely chopped)
14. Black salt (as per taste)
15. Raw onion (sliced into rings)
16. Tomato sauce (optional)
17. Cooking oil 5-6 tbsp


Chicken stuffing

1. In a pan, take 3 tbsp of cooking oil and when the oil is warm enough add the chopped onions, finely chopped ginger and finely chopped garlic, saute them for couple of minutes, till the onion looks golden brown and the raw smell of the garlic is gone.

2. Once the onion,ginger and garlic are done, add finely chopped tomatoes. (add less tomatoes, if you like to have ketchup with your roll.) and fry the tomatoes along with onion, ginger, garlic till it's cooked.

3. Now add the seasonings including, salt to taste, 1/2 tbsp of cumin powder (if you don't have cumin powder, it's completely fine), 1/2 tbsp of red chili powder (or as per your taste) and mix the spices properly. 

4. Now add 200 grams of boneless chicken, cut into small cubes and mix it with the 'masala'. Cook the chicken on medium heat for 25 to 30 minutes, cover occasionally and sprinkle water if needed. Take care not to burn the chicken or make gravy, keep the chicken stuffing dry.

5. When the chicken is cooked, sprinkle 2 tsp of black pepper powder, 1 tbsp of green chili sauce and handful of coriander leaves, now mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Turn off the heat, take it out in a bowl and keep it aside.

Dough and Roll making

6. In a big bowl, take two cups of all purpose flour (or the maida), add salt to taste and required amount of warm water and knead it to a smooth dough, using your hands. Make sure, the dough is soft, cover the dough and wait for 15 to 20 minutes. (Avoid adding oil, as it can make the roll crispy.)

7. Once the dough is all ready to be rolled into a chapati, make few portions of the dough and using a rolling pin, roll them to round, flat shaped chapatis. Make the desired amount of chapatis and keep them aside. 

8. Now keep a skillet, on medium to high heat and when the skillet is hot, put on the chapati and cook it from both the sides, till brown spots appear on the chapati or tortillas. Apply oil, as required and when both sides are cooked, take out. Break an egg in a bowl or directly on the skillet, add salt to taste and place the chapati back on the egg.

9. Now reduce the heat to medium low heat, so that the egg doesn't burn, apply oil, as required and when the 'egg chapati' is cooked, take it out and keep aside. And in this way make all rest of the 'egg chapati' and keep them aside.

Roll making

10. Finally take one egg chapati or egg tortilla, place the chicken stuffing, sliced onion rings (as per your requirement) and 1 to 2 pinch of black salt. You can also add ketchup or tomato sauce if needed. now slowly, roll the chapati from one side to other, wrap it with butter paper or foil and enjoy it hot.

Healthy Alternatives

1. Use wheat flour, instead of all purpose flour or the cake flour.
2. Use only the egg white and avoid yellow.
3. Use breast piece chicken for stuffing.
4. Use oil spray, instead of spoon.
