TILAPIA FISH COOKED IN CREAMY MUSTARD GRAVY | SPICY FISH PAN FRIED | #TILAPIARECIPE

        Getting fresh fish in the United States is a difficult job, and finding Indian fish is even tough. But thankfully there are some boneless fish that are fresh and tastes great, the Tilapia or the Salmon, these fish really melts to the Indian taste buds. Here is a simple Tilapia fish recipe, cooked in old-style mustard and poppy seed gravy, straight from my grandma's kitchen. Enjoy reading.

Preparation Time - 10 minutes
Cooking time - 25 minutes
Serves - 2

Ingredients

1. Tilapia fish - 400 grams
2. Mustard seeds - 3 tbsp
3. Poppy seeds - 2 tbsp
4. Cloves of garlic - 2 to 3
5. Dry red chili - 1
6. Salt to taste
7. Turmeric powder - 2 Tsp
8. Red chili powder - 1/2 tbsp
9. Onions - 1 cup (Cut into juliennes)
10. Tomato - 1/2 cup (Cut into juliennes)
11. Whole green chili - 4
12. Cooking oil - 6 tbsp

Preparation 

1. You get medium-sized fish cut into pieces, but if you want them to be small just cut them into halves. Wash them thoroughly, add salt to taste, turmeric powder, mix, and keep aside. Now in a pan take 4 tbsp of cooking oil and shallow fry it for 2 to 3 minutes from both the side. Take them out and keep aside.

2. Now to make the creamy mustard paste take 3 tbsp of mustard seeds, 2 tbsp of poppy seeds, 3 cloves of garlic, and one dry red chili in the grinder. Grind them to a smooth paste. The skin of the mustard seeds make the food bitter so, strain it using a sieve to get a smooth mustard paste.  


3. In a pan take 2 tbsp of oil, add 1 cup of onions cut into juliennes, 3 to 4 green chilies, fry them till they turn golden brown. Now add 1/2 cup of tomatoes cut into juliennes and cook they are cooked.


4. Now add salt to taste, 2 Tsp of turmeric powder, half Tbsp of red chili powder (I am using the Kashmiri red chili powder for color, you can avoid) and mix all the ingredients together.


5. Then add the mustard paste you made along with one cup of water, wait till it starts boiling when the gravy boils add the fried fish into it. Cover and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes on medium-high heat. Cook till the raw smell of the mustard is gone, stirring can break the pieces of fish thus avoid stirring. 


6. Serve hot and enjoy with steamed rice.
